Religious Symbols by HubertCumberdalle Religious Symbols by HubertCumberdalle
Am I the only one who finds this stupid? I'm not Christian, but it still annoys me when people wear crosses for the crap of it. Its not a fashion statement, its a symbol of peoples' religious beliefs.

Zayn Malik wears a crucifix and he says that he's Muslim - I think that's totally ridiculous.

THANK YOU for this stap!

a cross is the symbol of Christs sacrifice for the salvation of humanity, not the chosen figure to wear just because it had black tiny stones that match your shoes...

and I cross simply because I don't know the meaning of other symbols. I have a friend who wore a jewish star to mass the other day because the stones in it matched her purse... just don't do it...

Eh, I would wear the Dharmacakra, even though I'm not Buddhist. I just support their ideology and philosophy. In fact I've been trying to live by them before, and probably will try again soon, when I just wake up from all this gray..

I hate it when people who CLEARLY aren't Christians or Believers or even believe in the existence of God wear crosses as a fashion statement. It REALLY drives me CRAZY! :chainsaw:

I agree with you. One girl in my class was wearing a huge cross and I told her that her cross looks awfully huge and strange. And then she told me that she is not religious and wears it just for fun and that that cross is just nothing. Couldn't agree with her less.
Some symbols must be respected and peopel should remember that they are affliated to certain groups, despite of their history, because this way I can say cannibalism is okay and a nice way of life everyone could do, because one million years ago our ancestors ate one another or something.

It's also a symbol of the Roman Empire's popular form of capital punishment, the symbol of the unfolded cube in sacred geometry, a druidic symbol from the celts....why do you feel the need to impose your restrictions on other people? Be more concerned with your own behavior and not those of others. You do not seem to have the intelligence to rule others.

I wear some symbols of religions of which i don't belong to but i try to learn about them first and i fell that you are correct my good man. If one is going to do so they should know what they are saying in that symbol and honor the customs attached or at least try to understand them.

You do realize that back in the beginning days of Christianity it was actually used to describe the five wounds of Christ right? Technically they are actually wearing it as apart of their religion :s

A lot of people don't actually. :s Only a number of people who have researched the Gnostics and heretical Christian groups know it.

Also about the St. Peter's Cross. Yes it was inherently Christian HOWEVER Anton LaVey took the symbol in 1960 and turned it into a satanic symbol. A lot of Satanists do know this bit...and don't care. Just like Nazis took a peaceful symbol and turned it into a symbol of hate. They didnt care with what they were doing -shrugs-

I knew about St. Peter's Cross. It's on some of the Popes' tombs. Ironic.

I've done a bit of research on the Gnostic Christians. They were quite a fascinating group.

I've known about it and I'm an ex-Catholic.

I had a friend who was a Gnostic. I still can't wrap my head around their whole mythos :s

I love the Gnostic mythos. I find them absolutely intriguing. I think the fact that I can't completely understand them is what I like about them the best.

I'm Christian and it annoys and disgusts me when bad guys in movies are always wearing crosses. Or gothic people wear the black and funeralistic crosses on thier necks.

I've never understood why people do that. Do they think it make them look trendy and cool or something? I wear cross necklaces an such but that's because I'm a Christian. Otherwise I wouldn't wear it.

It also pisses me off when people abuse th ehell out of Eastern an dNew Age religions just to seem speshul.

I know this one girl who knows nothing about Wiccanism, and she wears a stupid pentagram necklace every day.

Wicca not Wiccanism. Its ok, most "followers" don't even know that to learn the core practices, and beliefs (such as the identities of the God and Goddess" they need to be initiated into a coven lineaged to Gardner). In short, how do you "follow" a religion when you don't even know the real names of the deities you claim to worship?

I could go on, but its a long rant and I think I made my point already.

You know what's funny? There was this big religious survey a little while ago. Most Christians couldn't even answer basic questions about their religion, and the ones that knew more about Christianity were Jews and Atheists.

Most people just go through the notions. Most don't even realize that by being Christian you're basically saying you believe in angels, demons, and all that supernatural stuff. Stuff that, when looked at objectively, sounds like a bunch of fairy-tale crap.

I think it's interesting when people wear symbols when they know the meanings of them, and I think with some people they use it as a way to show respect, not always to just be cool. I see some people wear several different religious symbols, some people do know the history behind them, for instance, pentagrams aren't always satanic or wiccan. If it's inverted, then it usually means something relating to Satanism. But the Pentagram also does represent different meanings in different religions. Maybe they're wearing them because they think it's fascinating or beautiful? Or it relates to their beliefs?
And I think it's just as bad to judge them as idiots. I mean, there are probably those who wear them to be cool, but there are intelligent people who wear them as well. And realize the meanings behind them.
But your entitled to your opinion, and I don't mind at all.

Well its hard to always tell why a person is wearing a religious symbol. However when its obvious enough to where you can tell, that's when there's an issues. At least with me.

You earn a cookie for the last sentence too. Some people take opinions way too personally. :cookie:

Expecially, to wear proved satan symbols, it is somehow creepy. As in the movie, when a ghost was summon by a bunch of teenagers, like a joke, but in the end the ghost remained trapped in our world, and there is no need to explain what happened. Some things cant be used, even like a joke.I am not saying, that by all means you will attract a ghost or whatever, wearing pentagram but still some caution wont be useless.

It makes me lol that before being religious symbols, they were something else. Like the symbol for bloody torture and death, in the crucifix's case.

I just have a tiny question.

Even though I don't exactly follow a religion, my godmother, who is also non-religious, gave me a cross on a necklace as a gift on my birthday. In all honesty, it was a technical error, since she was trying to make the first letter to my name, which is a 't' as a capital, but the metal grew too quickly so it was left as a lowercase with no adjacent curve. I really care about my godmother, and receiving something that was made from the heart and her hands is something that I view as a symbol of her hard work, in which I proudly wear. Is this considered annoying as well? :<
